Biobased thermosetting materials
Abstract
A review. This chapter highlights the main recent researches on biobased thermo-setting resins. In the last two decades, esp. the last years, many efforts were dedicated (i) to synthesize new biobased building blocks used thereafter to build thermosetting resins and/or (ii) to elaborate thermosetting resins from renewable resources. The interest on biobased resins is justified by the latest concerns regarding sustainability and toxicity. These new developed resins should represent a sustainable alternative to the fossil based ones. The chapter presents the main aspects concerning the synthesis, precursors, principal properties or peculiar aspects on each class of thermosets. The chapter dedicated a subchapter to most used com. resins: unsatd. polyesters, polyurethanes and non-isocyanate polyurethanes, epoxides and phenolics.
